PSA: 2023 NYFW Reflections
The late 👑 André Leon Talley wrote this before he passed away last year:
“The halcyon days of Fashion Week have gone, due to the virus. They will never come back as they once were.”
He was right,
In 2023 it is an overly socialized, under educated decentralized beautiful mess.
That is a good thing because that means it is changing.
With change comes evolution.
Let’s not let the important things in the Fashion World go extinct. Social Media has stripped away New York Fashion Week of style and grace and civility.
We have a moral code to convey grace through the world of style.
Isn’t that why we dress up to go to a show?
Designers spend a lot of time, effort and money and most people decide to watch a real live runway show through their phone screens without appreciating the walk of the model, the work of the hair and makeup artists and the craftsmanship into the garments or showing some respect to the photographers capturing the show.
“Extra honey in the tea but pay no homage to the bee”
– Jay Electronica
Let start dressing up again, putting our phones down every once in awhile and make it fashion EVERY WEEK.
Ladies: NO open toe shoes in the winter.
PR companies: Stop sending out invites the day OF the event.
Gentlemen; NO brown shoes with Navy suits. Brown shoes with Black and Grey suits only!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are NOT in competition with each other.
We are in concert with each other.
Let’s conduct ourselves accordingly.
STOP CELEBRATING
MEDIOCRITY.
HUMANS OVER ALGORITHMS
Now back to our regularly scheduled program.
