Sick

Posted on 22 December 2004 by Jonn Nubian

So I been in the bed ALL day coughing and weezing…basically dying or at least it feels like it.
Good thing I have my TREO…im unable to sit up so it good to have a device where I can check my email, check out the web and make an occasional phone call.
I even managedd to finish reading “The Da Vinci Code”.
I coughed up a lot of flem and I think it had blood in it.
I think that means infection.
I did a Google search and came across an interesting article about bodegas in NYC selling anti-biotics over the counter.
I didn’t know it illegal to get anti-biotics WITHOUT a prescription.
This is NOT the case in other parts of the world. Something to do with the fear of building uncontrolled immunity to bacteria.
Speaking of other parts of the world, I listened to a report on NPR about “podcasting” or “ipodding” which is basically radio broadcasts in mp3 format which people can update via XML.
The real interesting thing is that it was started by Adam Curry, the 1987 MTV Adam Curry. This dude is living in a castle in the UK.
Still a Mac guy and the concept needs a new name if it will catch on.
it should be something technologically agnostic and not referencing the Ipod exclusively.
Plus no matter who you are, white headphones look wack. I do understand the extension of the brand.
I just started reading Ann Kleins “No Logo” which provides a lot of insight to this like that.
Speaking of brands I will continue to buid mine in 2005 with the release of the album and also a 3 part “mix cd” of classics titled “User-Friendly Soul”.
I heard Just Blaze and Dnice throw in “Peg” by Steely Dan @ table 50 a little while ago. Kind of surprised me since I’m including in the first installment so stay tuned.

Early Morning Rant

Posted on 02 December 2004 by Jonn Nubian

Early morning Rant before my morning coffee or as OddTodd says “COFFAY”

What’s the deal with people sending me emails WITHOUT subjects lines?
(you know who you are)

Whats the deal with PLAXO? Stop sending me “I’m updating my address book” emails for the wack Plaxo application. What happened to plain old address book?

Wash and Fold service is great @ 50 cents per pound.
Its great and saves so much time in your life EXCEPT when you go pick it up and your clothes aint done.
So I’m sitting here in my underwear and typing this….

I’m so inspired by Carlos Gutierrez as being appointed the new Commerce Secretary.
He did NOT graduate. Instead he got a job at Kellogg in 1975 Frosted Flakes out of a van.
He worked his way up to be CEO of the company and got paid $7.3 million last year.

His new post will pay him $175,000 but he could probably live off my addiction to Apple Jacks!

Thanx again for those who came out to the “official” record release party the other night.

Mass emails were sent out 3 times last week from the promoter.
I sent out emails from my personal list and used a new program which crashed and the emails got out LATE. Like same Day late. My apologies.
So I’m keeping my day job and will NOT be a promoter in the near future.

Much love for the support

Tavis off NPR

Posted on 30 November 2004 by Jonn Nubian

*After three years of hosting the daily “The Tavis Smiley Show” on National Public Radio, the veteran journalist will sign off for good on Thursday, Dec. 16. Smiley had chosen not to renew his contract with the outlet, closing the curtain on a program that set a record as the fastest growing radio show in NPR history.
tavis(radiomic) (11k image)

“I am grateful for the opportunity NPR gave me to bring a broader range of viewpoints on life in America to the public airwaves,? Smiley said. ?It is my hope that in the future, NPR will make a greater effort to use its full resources to make this vision a reality.”

“The Tavis Smiley Show” was born out of a joint effort between NPR and the African American public radio consortium to bring more diverse programming to public radio. Heavily recruited by NPR, Smiley became the first African American to host his own signature talk show in the outlet?s history. Despite limited national marketing, the show proved popular with African American and non-African American audiences alike and broadened the network?s demographic range to younger audiences.

Tavis Smiley will continue as producer and host of his PBS ?Tavis Smiley? talk show.

Either way NPR is the joint.
Where else can you hear an interview with the Prime Minister of the Ukraine and coverage of the ODB funeral?

Live and Vote

Posted on 04 November 2004 by Jonn Nubian

Maybe it should have clicked in the back of my head when I rolled out of bed to go VOTE.
For some reason after telling myself that the election was SO close that I wouldnt bother to catch the results until THURSDAY. I opted to watch the movie “21 Grams” instead which is very good btw.
;)

Foe much of the day I got random “disappointed” IMs, emails and phone calls die to Kerry’s defeat.
So tonight/this morning I’m listening to NPR about the country is somewhat “divided” almost like a cival war and about “morality” and of course RELIGION.
Then it ALL made sense.

In February 2003 I got an email from a familiy member that ANOTHER family member was actually MEETING with the President.
Like a REAL meeting about 50 minutes for Tennesee “Faith-based Initiative”

On top of that during a speech President Bush even quotes/says my own flesh and bloods name
(who happens to be a pastor).
Peep the archives here

Despite the lies and the war I KNOW for a fact that those people in Tennesee and probably MORE family members VOTED for Bush for one simple reason.

THEY GO TO CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY.

Simple as that, old school morals. Plain and Simple.
Speaking of simple, the last few weeks of the campaign George Bush wasnt even wearing a tie no more.
Don’t make him cool with me, but them “nascar” dudes LOVE that.
Who is our choice? Kerry the Funeral Director or Lurch (insert laugh here)

It wasnt about Voting or Dying. Or even given thought that its “ok” for gay people to be married.
More like Living your Life and Voting and continuing to live your life.
My life isn’t any different now that Bush is still in office.

To most people the “War in Iraq” is just another reality show on t.v. that happens to show its promos during the 6 O’ clock news.

Clinton was at least “semi-cool” and played the saxophone!
He even got an office in Harlem still.

Kerry windsurfed and went to shoot geese. I can’t relate.
Kerry didnt have much to lose though.
In fact after his concession speech I bet he had a $65 hamburger with lots of Heinz Ketchup!

:D

Seriously, he/(his wife) has $300 million reasons to be happy about.

Other countries have as much as NINE different political parties to represent the people.
As diverse as America is we still have the option of just TWO??

Until that changes in a major way I’m keeping my black ass vote in my backpocket until someone asks for it with something valuable in return.

Back in my former life working in television I worked on covering the Kerry-Weld debate back in 199?, and got to meet dude up close and personal when someone from the crew was putting on his lavalier microphone.
Looking back on it now he struck me as “Good for Massachusetts Senator” and
NOT Grand High Exalted Leader of the Free World.

Not that George qualifies for it either, but I respect his HUSTLE.

I remember my Guanese barber telling me months ago:
“Those in power, stay in power”
Not the kind of thing that you regularly hear while getting your afro cut .
I think its a quote from Mohammed, either way it rings true.
Its achieved through religion and culture or “sex, drugs and rock and roll” or in these days hiphop and politics.

With faced with the choice of “the lesser of two evils” we should have looked at it in terms of using
WINDOWS or MAC operating systems.
Both have their advantages and limits.

Use what best suits you until something better comes along

:hehe:

Terrorists with etiquette who vote and kill their president
Their capacity for evil so evident and prevalent
Ain’t no hesitation involved, a nation dissolved
While we sit back waitin’ to evolve
Those who would trade in their freedom
For their protection deserve neither

Beef is not what these famous niggas do on the mic
Beef is what George Bush would do in a fight

Yeah, beef is not what Ja said to 50
Beef is more than Irv not bein here with me
When a soldier ends his life with his own gun
Beef is tryin’ to figure out what to tell his son

Beef is oil prices and geopolitics
Beef is Iraq, the West Bank, and Gaza Strip
Some beef is big and some beef is small
But what y’all call beef is not beef at all

update

Posted on 27 October 2004 by Jonn Nubian

Just figured I’d do a quick update seeming its 6 days to the election.
Ralph Nader said: “How can you have an Election without a proper Selection, it’s more like a coronation”.

He’s right. This country is split either Democrat or Republican.
Just imagine, Chile has nine parties …9!

Makes you wonder.

Checked out an illusionist/magician who incorporates principles of Kabbalah in his show.
He gave everyone a gift of “red string” which I been wearing to protect me from the “evil eye”

Interesting.

Another thing that bothered me, maybe it shouldn’t.
If anyone has been watching the reality show “Film School” on IFC.

Something just makes me raise my eyebrow when there is a BLACK guy with DREADLOCKS, making a film about the death of Amadou Diallo, titled
“The Adventures of Super Nigger, Episode 1, the Final Chapter”
going up to NEW HAMPSHIRE to visit his really white sometimely girlfriend.
Is it just me?

To those Red Sox fans, 3-0, wow, they just might reverse the 86 year curse.
I haven’t paid much attention since the Yakees were out.
But if they LOSE. THERE is NO curse, they prove they are just really wack!

Since there are only 2 months left in the year. the 2 BEST hiphop albums this year are.
Masta Ace “The Long Hot Summer”
Pete Rock :”Soul Survivor 2″, if you havent heard them youre sleeping.

Can’t say I’m hating on the John Legend album over that RIAA fiasco.
But after a few listens, its a “chick flick”….lol

I’m feeling generous, I got like 4 GMAIL invites in my pocket.
First four email request gets them.
Holla

P.S. if you don’t know a gmail is don’t holla.

Peace

Since NO good Television Drama is on besides GOOD Law & Order episodes.
Nip/Tuck season is over. “Rescue Me” season is over.
I found myself turning my attention to the Yankees/Red Sox matchup.

I thought for SURE being up 3 games to NOTHING the Yankees would win.
But NO…I guess I will be on the edge of my seat tonight.

Vote Or Die!

Posted on 05 October 2004 by Jonn Nubian

Went to REGISTER to VOTE in my district yesterday.
I NEVER Voted in my life. I’m non-partisan and semi-vegatarian these days.
I decided to finally register since I have been watching the political climate and since I have some opinions on some things I want to be able to back them up.

I sat and watched TV in 2000 with these numbers:
Gore 50,996,116 Bush 50,456,169.

Yet, Bush still ended up in office and a friend who I watched it with who DID vote that day didn’t understand why.

Far as I was concerned Eric B. IS president…lol

People would tell me about blacks (former slaves)fighting for the 15th amendment in 1870 for right to vote.
Digging deeper I found out that it took almost 100 years,1965 for the
Voting Rights Act to enforce the initial right to vote.

In “Default and Dynamic Democracy,” Loren E. Lomasky observed, “As electorates increase in size, the probability that one’s vote will swing the election approaches zero” …

“[I]n large-number electorates, there is a vanishingly small probability that an individual’s vote (or voice) will swing an election … [F]or citizens of large-scale democracies, voting is inconsequential.”

The winner in an election is certainly not the fictitious entity referred to as “The People,” but rather the representatives of the majority. While it seems obvious that the minority in a democracy is thwarted openly, the question is, do the elected representatives at least carry out the will of the majority?

In reality, the majority, too, has little say in the business of governance ? they’ve merely elected politicians who have been awarded carte blanche to do as they please. As Benjamin Barber wrote:

“It is hard to find in all the daily activities of bureaucratic administration, judicial legislation, executive leadership, and paltry policy-making anything that resembles citizen engagement in the creation of civic communities and in the forging of public ends. Politics has become what politicians do; what citizens do (when they do anything) is to vote for politicians. “

  • If we vote for a candidate and he/she wins, we have consented to the laws he/she votes for, but we have also consented to the laws he/she has voted against.
  • If we vote against the candidate and he/she wins, we have consented to the laws he/she votes for or against.
  • And if we do not vote at all, we have consented to the outcome of the process whatever it may be.
  • In fact, in the rigged game that is democracy, those who have the money and the time can prowl the halls of power to ensure that their causes are privileged. “The tyranny exercised by well-entrenched minorities over unorganized majorities,” in Lomasky’s words.

I’m even beginning the toy with the notion of “holding” my vote.
A concept by Norman Kelley to “hold” out on OUR voting power to enforce OUR issues that directly affect and appeal to US
(this would be more effective at the local/state level)

Anywho, I got inspired and designed a limited edition “Vote or Die!” T-shirt.
The slogan has been around since 1999.

First out as downloadable PDF by b!X out of Portland.
I even found some a href=”http://www.kalilily.net/weblog/04/08/30/192128.html”>posts from this guys mother claiming that Diddy “stole” his idea.

    P. Diddy made it a hot fashion statement

I made it hotter and relevant

    [ {/america+product-vote =(death) + vote(consume it)=live} ]
    :hehe:

    Freedom AINT FREE!

“Beef is not what Jay said to Nas
Beef is oil prices and geopolitics
Beef is Iraq, the West Bank, and Gaza Strip
Some beef is big and some beef is small
But what y’all call beef is not beef at all
Beef is real life happenin everyday…”
