Nappy Headed Ho’s

Posted on 12 April 2007 by jnu

let me chime in:

Original Transcript:

DON IMUS, Radio Host: That’s some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos and…

BERNARD MCGUIRK, Radio Co-Host: Some hard-core hos.

DON IMUS: That’s some nappy-headed hos there, I’m going to tell you that now.

I was watching The Newshour with Jim Lehrer on Tuesday where I learned a few things in the past about Don Imus

REVEREND JESSE JACKSON, Civil Rights Activist:

They’ve made these kind of racist statements about Maya Angelou. They’ve made them referring to Venus and Serena Williams as the animals, they should be in “National Geographic.”

JEFFREY BROWN: In another often quoted incident, Imus is reported to have said of the NewsHour’s Gwen Ifill, when she worked at the New York Times in the 1990s, “Isn’t the Times wonderful? It lets the cleaning lady cover the White House.”

Imus today denied ever saying that.

Whatever, he did say “Nappy Headed Ho’s” though.

Funny thing that the studio where Imus tapes his show for MSNBC is in Secaucus. NJ which is about 9.7 mi (about 18 mins) from Rutgers University.

Nobody isnt saying too much about his co-host who introduced the “hos” when he said “hardcore hos”

I wonder if these dudes would have said that a little closer to Newark, like on Market Street….lol

2 weeks later

Posted on 27 September 2006 by jnu

A lot can happen in 2 weeks. I got a Tivo after a nearly successful failure of building my own PVR from an old computer , a tv capture card and some open source software.

It feels so good and do other things without being a slave to sit down and watch television at a particular time with all the commercials.

I even was able to catch the new Fantastic 4 cartoon, which at said time of braodcast I was sleeping.

I even have the unit hooked up to the web so if i think of something to record I can tell the tivo to do from my treo before getting on the subway or anywhere where I have access to the internet.

The Vice.Lounge free download “campaign” we started got us over 3,000 myspace friends and even MY myspace page got a little more friendly as well. All when didnt even need Internet marketing San Diego

I even plotted out the playlist for the podcast “Winter/Spring Collection” and this site (Me) got nominated for a Black Web Award the in Category of Best Personal Website by an Individual!

The awards celebrate African, African American and Caribbean excellence online in over 100 categories, and over 2,000 unique nominations from 24 countries.

To paraphrase one of my favorite rappers Murs, that means:
“I’m greater than your grandfathers’s father”

I hope they got the name spelled right by the time you all read this but still vote for me by clicking here:

Black Web Awards Lifestyles Ballot

Thank you for your support!!!!
Putting the finishing touches on our first music video for the song “Pillows” which has been getting much play online and also in Italy thank to RadioPellenera and features vocals from yours truly…lol

The video is actually a re-work of a scene where the instrumental of the song is actually used in the film “No Problema” directed by Rich Williams

Stay Tuned!

Nip/Tuck/Kick Push

Posted on 06 September 2006 by jnu

niptuck

Nip/Tuck season 4 started last night and it looks to be a really good season with Larry Hagman and Sanaa Lathan as a married couple and Brooke Shields as a shrink.

While all this is happening in Miami, I wonder if there is a New Jersey cosmetic surgery practice that had similar stories???

One thing that makes it one of the best shows on tv is the music:
Here is a downloadable list of music in this season first episode “Cindy Plum”:

“Boogie Oogie Oogie” – A Taste of Honey
– Christian and Sean operate on a couple in their 50’s, celebrate in upscale bar

“Love Is In The Air” – John Paul Young – Christian has ménage a trois, Sean tries to make love to Julia

“Notas” – Gotan Project – Christian has post-coitus argument with Riley and Jill White

“You Sexy Thing” – Hot Chocolate
– Sean performs larynx surgery on Cindy Plumb

“Diferente” – Gotan Project
– Christian performs a testicular implant procedure

“Tired of Being Alone” – Al Green
– Christian has sex with his shrink, boys sign away the practice

Enjoy!

It’s also Fashion Week next week, I heard rumors of 2007 prom dresses being shown.
It can’t be as bad as a show I attended a few weeks ago where I got a sample spray of Clive Christian cologne.
The brand for men is called “1872″, and was given the royal seal from Queen Victoria….

It’s touted as the worlds most expensive cologne!
The perfume spray is $695, a 30ml bottle of your initials in white diamonds is $14,500 and there is a 500ml bottle that is set with a 5 carat diamond.
(they only make 10 of those )and it will cost you $215,000.

Only one problem, it doesnt SMELL that great at all.

Bottomline, If I was strolling around in the hills somewhere in Europe it might fit me.
It’s like olde english…just sweeter.
I will stick to my Egyptian musk, AXE or Carolina Herrera for when I really want to get jiggy.

When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts

Posted on 22 August 2006 by jnu

levee
Today at 9pm on HBO!

If you missed the first part of this riveting documentary last night, you
must catch the second part on 8/22 (tonight) at 9pm on HBO.

Spike Lee directs this film which depicts not only the devastion of the
storm, but “Americans begging for simple aid from their government.”

And what’s more scary is that a year later not enough has been done to help.

Overall the film may have some flaws but it is a gripping and moving piece of television that shouldn’t be missed.

The part where Mayor Ray Nagin tells us when he got to take a shower on Air Force One and made the president wait while he finished is classic.

All four acts will be seen Tuesday, Aug. 29 (8:00 p.m.-midnight),
the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Kevin Powell for Congress

Posted on 14 June 2006 by jnu

So I’m on the host committee for Kevin Powell’s run THIS YEAR, for a seat in the
United States Congress in the 10th Congressional District in Brooklyn.

kp

He made the official announcement at his birthday party last month.
This was right after I was “back in effect”.
(there is a pic of me floating around the internet with drink in hand)
I remember I first met Kevin in 1998 (in my television days) and shot an interview of him after he did a speaking engagement @ Mount Holyoke college.
If you don’t know who Kevin Powell is he has published six books, including his current title,
Who’s Gonna Take The Weight? Manhood, Race, and Power in America, which is an Essence magazine bestseller.
He is best known as a cast member on the first season of MTV’s
“The Real World”. It just got me thinking of what a reality show it would be to follow his campaign run from start to finish?
Before you steal MY idea to include in your Reality TV Show pitch,
Join Kevin for cocktails, conversations, and to kick-off the summer at the . . .

Countdown to Lockdown

Posted on 15 March 2006 by jnu

It’s been more than a week of not posting, nothing serious like the
vioxx class action
or a vioxx attorney, just been busy with work.
Speaking of ny lawyers,
I knew that when I heard that Mel Sachs was Lil’ Kim’s lawyer, he would work some magic and got her from facing a 10 year sentence to 366 days.

I met Mel under different circumstances involving champagne and a baby grand piano.
I later spoke to him on the phone a few times regarding a legal issue with a close friend.
Mel is the man!

I read the new BET reality show “Countdown to Lockdown” got the highest rating in the networks 25 years history.
The numbers are something close to 2 million households.
There are a little over 20 million black people in the country…you do the math.
Guess what? Tavis Smiley is on PBS and NPR along with Ed Gordon.

I personally haven’t watched the channel in about a year and definitely not their website after getting called to “revamp” it…thats another long story I won’t get into.

The television show follows her 14 days before she turns herself in to prison after admitting that she lied to a grand jury (PERJURY) in an investigation of a shooting outside New York’s Hot 97 radio station in 2001.
