vicelounge wants to thank the many who have helped us this past year.
There are so many to give hugs and handshakes to, so i will not try — at the risk of forgetting someone. but if you are on this list then we more than appreciate who you are and what you did for us.

thanks! and let’s continue moving forward with art, culture, media and positivity. this may sound corny, but usually doing the right thing is the rebellious act!

Urban Mix Suite: VH1 Hip Hop Honors Weekend

Posted on 06 October 2007 by jnu

Special Thanks to Ubiquita/Dubspot and Missbehave magazine for the invite to The Urban Mix Suite yesterday as part of the VH1 HipHop honors weekend (no one couldn’t get me tickets to the actual show?)

My homegirls, The Ladies of Ubiquita (DJ’s Reborn, Selly and Moni),were spinning

and Spinderella (Salt-n-Pepa) at Charlotte Ronson (C. Ronson) showed up later.

Rohn Padmore, owner of Enigma PR, made a huge splash during the 2007 Oscars when his “gift suite” concept was the only one sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
“People involved in the Hip Hop industry are known for setting trends and making a huge impact on pop culture. Our sponsors and participating brands know that getting product into these hands is going to pay off for them ten-fold. Hey who knows, someone may even write a song about it,”

says Rohn Padmore.
I dont know about that Rohn, you could use some VICELOUNGE music for atmosphere…lol but this thing is taking the “goodie bag” concept to a whole new level
…” by inviting VIPs and ultimately giving them an opportunity to get their hands on the latest lifestyle, fashion and music technology products on the market from the leaders in these industries.”
Bottom line..FREE shit is always good in my book! especially if its Full Metal jacket earphones from Skullcandy plus free drinks too,
(even though Hennessey isn’t my first drink of choice)

I did find out something I did not know about the drink:
In 1971 Hennessy merged with Moët et Chandon.
In 1987 the drinks group then merged with fashion house Louis Vuitton lv

speaking of fashion, I got to speak with Marc Hobson briefly about these shoes, that to me were very anime-inspired.

The designer corrected me and described the shoe as a cross between a
Manolo Blahnik and an Air Jordan.

Very interesting, but if you’re not out fighting crime, what outfit would you wear with these ladies?

Radiopellenera-vicelounge in Italy

Posted on 10 September 2007 by jnu

I had to blog about the fact that we our free mp3 download has made it to Italy.
Special thanks to Radiopellenera Jazz It Up!!! with Simone Vimercati – A delightful hour of Jazz, Nu jazz, Soul, Space Funk, Rare Grooves, Brazilian Flavours, Easy Listening Soundtracks and Nu Sounds.

This is how Simone describes the show:
simone-radiopellenera“During this hour, I give you a cocktail of pleasant and good quality music that goes from instrumental to vocal jazz, from soul to funky, from latin to rare grooves or new electric sounds. This is also to show everybody that jazz is not a musical genre, but a style, an attitude to express ourselves through the music. This attitude keeps on evolving and it has no limits. It is a music that embraces many listeners’ generations: from the youngest, who can discover the past’s giants through new artists, to the the eldest who will get amazed by listening to the music’s evolution of jazz, soul and funk.
I wish you a good listening: let you cherish by JAZZ IT UP !!!.”

Rally and Press Conference Against Iraq War

Posted on 14 August 2007 by jnu

I just received this from my man Kevin Powell, so i figured ‘d post it to get the word out

Please join, Kevin Powell, and other members of moveon.org, from the Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens councils of moveon.org, for an IMPORTANT rally and press conference against the War in Iraq

THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2007
1:00 pm
City Hall Park (right near City Hall in Manhattan)
Park Row and Lafayette Street, facing the Brooklyn Bridge
NEW YORK CITY

ABOUT THE RALLY AND PRESS CONFERENCE
We are told, in billion dollar increments, the escalating cost of the war but never in terms of what the war is costing each of us, what price we all paying for this unending war. At this event we will announce the actual dollar price we are all paying for this unending war in Iraq— money taken from local healthcare, education, infrastructure, and other basic needs of our everyday lives. With over 100 other moveon.org councils across the country holding their own press conferences on the same day, we expect to raise wide-ranging public consciousness about the cost of this war right here at home to each and every one of us.

And we will hear from 2 individuals who will speak of the cost of this war on a very different levels:

Nasreen, an Iraqi schoolteacher and one of only 133 to get a visa to the U.S. this year, helped begin an email exchange four years ago between her students and those of a Brooklyn teacher. Despite significant hardships they have been sending messages on the very real costs of war to ordinary people like you and me living (and sometimes despairing and wishing to die) in Baghdad. Kevin Powell is widely considered one of America’s most important voices in these early years of the 21st century. Legendary feminist Gloria Steinem asserts that “as a charismatic speaker, leader, and a very good writer, Kevin Powell has the courage…to be fully human, and this will bring the deepest revolution of all.” Kevin will speak about the war from the perspective of someone who organizes and lectures across America.

Please join us at this very important event to learn more about the toll this war is taking on us all and the price we are all paying. And please invite friends, family, co-workers, everyone needs to hear this.

Directions:
2, 3 to Park Place A, C to Broadway-Nassau Street
J, M to Fulton Street
R, W to City Hall
4, 5, 6 train to the Brooklyn Bridge station or Fulton Street station

Host: Jill Howell

That line of code allows one to unlock certain copy protection features on an HD DVD.

In particular AACS.

AACS, a DRM scheme used to encrypt data on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray disks, would appear to be cracked wide open by that short string of hexadecimal codes, as previously, only disk-specific Volume Keys were compromised.

2 weeks later

Posted on 27 September 2006 by jnu

A lot can happen in 2 weeks. I got a Tivo after a nearly successful failure of building my own PVR from an old computer , a tv capture card and some open source software.

It feels so good and do other things without being a slave to sit down and watch television at a particular time with all the commercials.

I even was able to catch the new Fantastic 4 cartoon, which at said time of braodcast I was sleeping.

I even have the unit hooked up to the web so if i think of something to record I can tell the tivo to do from my treo before getting on the subway or anywhere where I have access to the internet.

The Vice.Lounge free download “campaign” we started got us over 3,000 myspace friends and even MY myspace page got a little more friendly as well. All when didnt even need Internet marketing San Diego

I even plotted out the playlist for the podcast “Winter/Spring Collection” and this site (Me) got nominated for a Black Web Award the in Category of Best Personal Website by an Individual!

The awards celebrate African, African American and Caribbean excellence online in over 100 categories, and over 2,000 unique nominations from 24 countries.

To paraphrase one of my favorite rappers Murs, that means:
“I’m greater than your grandfathers’s father”

I hope they got the name spelled right by the time you all read this but still vote for me by clicking here:

Black Web Awards Lifestyles Ballot

Thank you for your support!!!!
Putting the finishing touches on our first music video for the song “Pillows” which has been getting much play online and also in Italy thank to RadioPellenera and features vocals from yours truly…lol

The video is actually a re-work of a scene where the instrumental of the song is actually used in the film “No Problema” directed by Rich Williams

Stay Tuned!

Digital Music, the Media and Freedom

Posted on 02 March 2006 by jnu

Yesterday I attended the Digital Music Forum, which was held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.

It’s a nice place, I will have to visit it for the “museum” next time. Its architecture sticks out of the lower Manhattan skyline from the Jersey side of things.

Funny since I make money blogging and was writing the other day on how much I didn’t like Myspace.com

I decide to sit on and listen to a featured interview and Q&A Session with
Shawn Gold, SVP, Marketing & Content, MySpace.com
.
Overall it was interesting to say the least.

By this saturday, the Myspace user community will grow to 60 Million users.
Those are numbers you can’t balk at.
Also long with the Ipod having 82% of the marketshare for MP3 players.

The fact that they started a record label, and plan to get into fashion and film is cool..and..scary.

I still don’t like it. They will build the brand, but it will reach a point of saturation and people will go back to using their OWN sites and communities to promote themselves.

Maybe I’m just a hater that I didn’t build a social networking community that looks like crap and sell it for $500 million to News Corp.

Wouldn’t you know sitting across from me was none other than Freedom Williams from C+C Music Factory fame.
Cool dude with lots going on….stay tuned.

Damon Wayans is trying to Trademark ‘N’ Word

Posted on 23 February 2006 by jnu

The actor Damon Wayans has been engaged in a 14-month fight to trademark the term “Nigga” for a clothing line and retail store, a search of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s online database reveals.

Wayans wants to dress customers in 14 kinds of attire from tops to bottoms, and use the controversial mark on “clothing, books, music and general merchandise,” as well as movies, TV and the internet, according to his applications.

But, so far, his applications have been unsuccessful. Trademark examiner Kelly Boulton rejected the registration dated Dec. 22, citing a law that prohibits marks that are “immoral or scandalous.” A previous attempt by Wayans was turned down on identical grounds six months earlier.

“While debate exists about in-group uses of the term, ‘nigga’ is almost universally understood to be derogatory,” Boulton wrote to Wayans’ attorney, William H. Cox, according to the application.

The 10 laws of marketing strategy by Neil Gillespie

Posted on 06 August 2005 by Jonn Nubian

1. Law of Market Share
You can?t ?grow? market share. Nor does
anyone ?share? it. You ?take it away? from
competitors.

2. Law of Relative Position
The choice of strategy is dependent on
your position relative to competitors.

3. Law of Relative Choice
Customers choose based on how good they
perceive you to be vs competitors.

4. Law of Sincerity
To discover a strategy, think of the
opposite of your objective. (If you want to
make money, figure out how to make it for
someone else).

5. Law of The Opposite
Every strength has an equally powerful but
opposite potential weakness. Watch for it in
competitors, guard against it in yourselves.

6. Law Of Concentrated Force
Concentrating more competitive force on as
narrow a front as possible wins market
share.

7. Law of Focus
Assuming a segment is big enough to
support specialists, the more focused
competitor usually wins.

8. Law of The Weakest Link
The amount of penetrating force that you
can exert in the market is only as much as
your weakest link allows.

9. Law of Process
Plans constructed in time and sequence
with a supporting system work faster, more
accurately, with a better chance of success.

10. Law of Repetition
Just when you?re getting sick of hearing
about your own message, your market is
just warming up to it.

- Neil Gillespie

ps.
f*ck you pay me
