What’s Happening

Posted on 28 February 2006 by jnu

A friend is trying to get me interested in Boston Office Space and Buying Gold Bars, too much for one day..dude I’m still thinking about it.

When the money does come through the first thing I will hit is Arcade Legends
. I wanted a video game in my office/house ever since my old boss had a Galaga Arcade game in his office, that you had to put quarters in.

We also had Ms. Pacman and Spyhunter in our break room so that was a breakroom.
Those were the days…lol

I got so many “use to be single” friends taking the plunge and getting married.
If youre like me you” look into Cheap Wedding Favors..because..well…they’re cheap

This morning…winter..spring…

Posted on 28 February 2006 by jnu

It’s so fricckin cold out…
I’m working..running errands..and putting together my next mixcd/podcast…
It’s titled “The Winter/Spring Collection“, started off as an ode to hip-hop both old and new, then I had this idea of…
What if I had a fashion show, but the clothes or models werent that great…
at least the music would be hot!
More on that later…

I still have to Send Flowers
Email via a friend, via a phone call…then an IM

“Good Morning, I’m making pancakes…want some?
I just heard your music and I want to place it on my page….”

Reason #3 why I don’t like Myspace.

Fine its good for promotion, and people hear my music, and find my site from there…
still its all out horrible.

Speaking of IM, I found out from a friend that her mother passed away over IM.

As long as I been online and as much as I love the internet, I think sujects like death or responses to it as so IMPERSONAL online…maybe it’s me…

V for Vendetta

Posted on 27 February 2006 by jnu

Screened “V for Vendetta” last night at the DGA. The director JAMES McTEIGUE, gave a brief introduction , with “hopes” that the film will make you think or discuss it afterwards, and it does.

I’m sure 98% of the audience did not know it was based on a comic book.
The fact that is stars Natalie Portman was enough.
V_09.jpg

Here is a synopsis:
Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (NATALIE PORTMAN) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked man (HUGO WEAVING) known only as “V.” Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression

I remember the comic book published in 1988 by Alan Moore, which looking at it again had so much texture and symbolism. The film makes the polictical themes MUCH more relevant to the times we are living in now.

You don’t have to read the comic to appreciate the movie, its an overall good experience.
It is written by THE WACHOWSKI BROTHERS who created (?) the Matrix Trilogy, and “V” is played by “Agent Smith” of those films.

In theatres March 17th.

Damon Wayans is trying to Trademark ‘N’ Word

Posted on 23 February 2006 by jnu

The actor Damon Wayans has been engaged in a 14-month fight to trademark the term “Nigga” for a clothing line and retail store, a search of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s online database reveals.

Wayans wants to dress customers in 14 kinds of attire from tops to bottoms, and use the controversial mark on “clothing, books, music and general merchandise,” as well as movies, TV and the internet, according to his applications.

But, so far, his applications have been unsuccessful. Trademark examiner Kelly Boulton rejected the registration dated Dec. 22, citing a law that prohibits marks that are “immoral or scandalous.” A previous attempt by Wayans was turned down on identical grounds six months earlier.

“While debate exists about in-group uses of the term, ‘nigga’ is almost universally understood to be derogatory,” Boulton wrote to Wayans’ attorney, William H. Cox, according to the application.

The Other Martin Luther King Speech

Posted on 21 February 2006 by jnu

Courtesy of The Boondocks television series on AdultSwim.

Let me be the one to say that I had HIGH expectations for the show.
I’ve had the comic strip running daily on my site since the beginning.

The animation is excellent, but I think it is geared towards another audience OR assumes that you never read the comic strip.

The writing is horrible and I think the casting for the voices is wrong. It’s not even funny.
You have John Witherspoon, (the father in FRIDAY) doing the voice as the grandfather, doing jokes from his role in FRIDAY. 7 out of 10 times the cartoon isnt even funny.

But THIS episode “Return of the King” is a gem. See this final scence for yourself

If for some reason you cant see the video and big PLAY button,
you can click here to view it.

Oh yeah…its Black History Month

Posted on 19 February 2006 by jnu

In case your forgot and want to skip ahead to St. Patricks, Easter and getting
mothers day flowers
Most people think of celebrating Black History Month starts with slavery or the civil rights era…

To trace the importance of the African heritage one must go back millions of years. Evidence has accumulated to the effect that Africa is the cradle of mankind. Professor Louis Leakey argues that Africa was important in the development of mankind in three ways.

  • First, some thirty or forty million years ago, the basic stock which eventually gave rise to both man and the ape came into existence in the vicinity of the Nile Valley.
  • Second, some twelve or fourteen million years ago, the main branch which was to lead to the development of man broke away from the branch leading to the ape.
  • Third, about two million years ago, in the vicinity of East Africa, true man broke away from his now extinct manlike cousins. The present species of man-Homo Sapiens–developed through a complex process of natural selection from a large number of different manlike creatures-hominids.

I recently began consulting on some high-end technology projects in the Wall Street area.

Slaves built the walls of Wall Street, which makes me think differently when it comes to
precious metals quotes or stock option investing

I recently came across some Jim Crow laws that were enforced from the 1880s into the 1960s:
Nurses No person or corporation shall require any white female nurse to nurse in wards or rooms in hospitals, either public or private, in which negro men are placed. Alabama

Buses All passenger stations in this state operated by any motor transportation company shall have separate waiting rooms or space and separate ticket windows for the white and colored races. Alabama

Railroads The conductor of each passenger train is authorized and required to assign each passenger to the car or the division of the car, when it is divided by a partition, designated for the race to which such passenger belongs. Alabama

Restaurants It shall be unlawful to conduct a restaurant or other place for the serving of food in the city, at which white and colored people are served in the same room, unless such white and colored persons are effectually separated by a solid partition extending from the floor upward to a distance of seven feet or higher, and unless a separate entrance from the street is provided for each compartment. Alabama

Pool and Billiard Rooms It shall be unlawful for a negro and white person to play together or in company with each other at any game of pool or billiards. Alabama

Toilet Facilities, Male Every employer of white or negro males shall provide for such white or negro males reasonably accessible and separate toilet facilities. Alabama

Intermarriage The marriage of a person of Caucasian blood with a Negro, Mongolian, Malay, or Hindu shall be null and void. Arizona

    So this week

Posted on 18 February 2006 by jnu

All the talk has been about VP Dick Cheney’s shooting incident.
If the were using Paintball Gunsmight not have been a big deal. But to wait 18 hours and not report it???
Then the guy has a heart attack from the buckshot lodged in his chest…whoa.

Also a total of 26.9 inches fell in Central Park, the most since record-keeping began in 1869.
Definitely time to start looking into florida vacation rentals

I was talking to a friend on IM, and she tells me how she needs
some auto insurance quotes since her insurance is about to expire.( or has already), as fate would have it the next day she gets into a car accident.

I was saying to myself how I miss the commercial office chairs from my old job.
Wouldn’t you know I see this homeless guy wheeling one down the street that was almost the same in good condition and I bought it from him for $4.
    :)

Valentine’s Day…Not Like it Used to Be

Posted on 14 February 2006 by jnu

One legend contends that St. Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men — his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

And for this you should get your girl a box of chocolates?

I haven’t celebrated Valentine’s since I was “forced” in elementary to buy cards for EVERYONE else in my class.
I wonder is they still do that and the artwork with the elmers glue and macaroni?
I’ll be home watching “The Shield”
(since the list is CLOSED to the party that Moet/Chandon is throwing)
In the meantime, listen to a sampling of the Outkast tribute to the day, aptly titled
    “Happy Valentine’s Day”

    Ubiquita 5-Sutra

Posted on 10 February 2006 by jnu

I don’t really need to say much about the party known as UBIQUITA ,
which is now a industry standard “noun” used to describe a certain type of vibe or a way weekly party should be done (I seen this happen in a board room at a label)
    celebrated year 5 last night.

My first real record was spun at this party, my business manager waited to meet me at this party ( @ Guernica) to give me my first record here, which is still on sale in Austria and the UK on vinyl . Digital distribution on Itunes and other outlets soon,
    (I know shameless plug)

So many good vibes and inspiration…most of good music and people.

Don’t worry, if you missed it last night…
Sutra is now the new home every Thursday in the LES

In sadder news (not confirmed) , I got a call from a friend/via a voicemail that hiphop producer Jay Dee (J dilla) passed away today due to liver complications.
Weird thing because before the Ubiquita party I found myself waiting in line (in the cold) for his release party for his new instrumental album “Donuts” More on that later….my phone is ringing…again
