English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in the eggplant No ham in the hamburger.
And neither pine nor apple in the pineapple.
English muffins were not invented in England.
French fries were not invented in France.
We sometimes take English for granted But if we examine its paradoxes we find that Quicksand takes you down slowly, Boxing rings are square.
And a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
If writers write, how come fingers don’t fing.
If the plural of tooth is teeth. Shouldn’t the plural of phone booth be phone beeth, If the teacher taught, Why didn’t the preacher praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables. What the does a humanitarian eat? Why do people recite at a play, Yet play at a recital? Park on driveways and Drive on parkways.
You have to marvel at the unique lunacy.
Of a language where a house can burn up as it burns down.
And in which you fill in a form by filling it out. And a bell is only heard once it goes!
English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race (Which of course isn’t a race at all)
That is why when the stars are out they are visible, but when the lights are out they are invisible, and why it is that when I wind up my watch it starts, but when I wind up this observation, it ends.

Last night I went to a screening for the film “HUSTLE & FLOW” .
You’re probably saying to yourself, “Didn’t the movie come out a looong time ago?”
At the time it came out I had no desire to see for 3 reasons:
1. My distaste for MOST hiphop from DOWNSOUTH
2. The trailer/tagline :
The music will inspire them. The dream will unite them. This summer get crunk.
:O (Horrible)
3. The Plot Outline:
With help from his friends, a Memphis pimp in a mid-life crisis attempts to become a successful rapper.
I wasnt aware that a pimp could have a mid-life crisis.
Anywho, it was a screening at the DGA theatre by BAFTA and SAG and they invited the star Terrence Howard to give a Q & A as well.
Wow! What a great movie! On all levels! Much props to the writer/director Craig Brewer for putting it together.
If you haven’t seen it or dismissed it like I did. Go see this movie
Terrence Howard said he talked/interviewed to over 100 pimps to prepare for the role.
I wonder if that will be bonus footage on the DVD?

Got up this morning and donated to the United Way Hurricane Katrina Relief effort
If you are reading this you should do the same if you havent already.
For the past 2 weeks its been on the brain
I met some family this summer who live in Louisiana. I found out they were ok.
It’s funny I got invited to go New Orleans to a cigar convention in July.
As timing would have it, I couldnt go, but kept saying to myself I going to have to.
Although I had an exciting and eventful week of meeting people from the likes of Patricia Field to Pharoahe Monch (he rocks the treo too)
I had a chance to meet some people who were born and raised in New Orleans and talked to some people who lost family and friends.
I got sick of the news footage on TV.
Got more insight listening to NPR, where they are actually interviewing survivors.
Got sick of reactions to Kanye West’ commments.
Got sick of George Bush finally taking responsibility.
Peace to Tony Tantrum for spinning my joints at the SpitKicker Beat Lounge
Thanx to Rasta Root for the Best of A Tribe Called Quest mix cd..you got email!
Glad David Banner, Nelly and others put the “Heal the Hood” joint together
It’s good that the French Quarter is still intact.
I’m glad Mos Def released a song about it, “Katrina Klap”
“Its dollar day for New Orleans,
its full of water everywhere and people dead in the streets
a million poor since 2004,
and they got illions and killions to waste on the war
and to make you question what the taxes is for
or the cost to reinforce the broke levee wall…
Mr. President’s a natural ass,
he out treating niggers worse than they treat the trash.”

Went to a few Fashion Week Events/Parties
One event had the models sporting a new line of digital cameras from Kodak
Cool new stuff but I had to sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), so I CANNOT write or talk about it. :plain:
Exciting stuff though. Just wait until they come out 2006.
I also got to see the new line of handbags from Patricia Field

You might know her best from the styles she created for
“Sex in the City”.
Besides that a weekend of work, parties (with open bar) a little sneak peek of some new technology and of course models.
Beautiful as they may be I think some of these models may suffer Lactose Intolerance
Someone told me that even WalMart was having a show during Fashion Week (hmmm…)

It’s been a frustrating week. Started with some good news though…
Ran into Qool Marv @ APT the other night.
Tell me he has something for me. He slips me a CD in a blank white sleeve, the title reads:
“Qool DJ Marv’s Mix for GILES PETERSON’s Worldwide Show broadcasting on BBC Radio One”
on the bottom it also says:
“This mix is dedicated to the souls of New Orleans and all the survivors of Katrina”
I listen to it the next day and to my surprise discover that early in the mix is a vice.lounge track entitled “Pillows”
with vocals by yours truly.
(thanx Marv)
Truth be told I recorded those vocals OVER THE PHONE.:satisfied:
Check out the mix by clicking here

insurance companies have a common practice of making free repairs of cracked windshields.
they do this to avoid replacing the entire windshield later on and for much more money than a crack repair.
makes sense.
so where was New Orleans’ windshield repair?
Read
this article (from 2001!) that predicted the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina
thanx Ray
