95% of people suck

Posted on 28 July 2005 by Jonn Nubian

Someone told me recently:
95% of ALL people suck. (I’m going to put this on a T-shirt) which may be true with what is going on in the world and some facts i gathered after waking up this morrning:

Rain contains vitamin B12.

Unlike dogs, pigs,& some other mammals, humans cannot taste water
They taste only the chemicals & impurities in the water.

Baskin Robbins once made ketchup ice cream.
This was the only vegetable flavored ice cream produced.

Half of all americans live within 50 miles of their birthplace

May-JULY stuff 2001

Posted on 26 July 2005 by Jonn Nubian

These are some entries that I wrote in May-July 2001 that I dug up from the archives.
fitting that I post them around the same week 4 years later.

So reflecting on the past week.
Today is tuesday, and I am writing this via my wireless high speed ricochet modem while drinking Iced Chai and Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches
served on multigrain bread, and this cafe I happened along not to far from BEI HQ.
Last tuesday I got invited to a party at the infamous SPA in Manhattan, which was kind of tired, ran into some old co-workers at Union Square and then I proceeded to see what adventure I could get into in Gotham City.

With no crime to fight, I took a stroll up broadway, and like most times while strolling down Broadway something was going on…
There was a club and a line quarter of the way down the block..See a flock of well dressed “nubians”, I asked what the even was, it turned out it was the record release party for the new artist Blu Cantrell, for more info in her click here
It was invite only and those that really wanted to get in had to pay…my mission…to get in without paying and without being on the guestlist…I walked up to the person at the door mentined my name and was issued a comp ticket right away. It might have something to do with I was wearing the standard issue black suit with black matching tie and shirt (part of the World Wide Wear Fashion line, (stay linked to this site for details)
Anywho I was in, soon after up in the VIP section with record execs and the like, puffing on my Dominican cigar and enjoying a baileys on the rocks…
Soon this guy comes over and sits down, then I see the girl obviously trying to avoid this other guy, comes by and sits right next to me in the midst of my cigar smoke.

It seemed like the guy was threatening her, she told me her story..she was a psychologist by trade..interesting..I always have meet young black females who were planning on going to school or in school for Psychology, but this was the first psychologist I actually met.

It turns out, she has a relationship with the guy that was “stalking” her and the guy who sat next to me. The latter mentioned he was chillin, enjoying the smell of my cigar, and didnt want any beef, the other guy was seriously trippin, and even given me an evil look because the girl was sitting next to me. Long story short, I told her the psychologically she was being emotionally and psychologically manipulated by this guy, and that as a psychologist she had the weapons the combat him, but for some reason she chose not to out of love…

So the night goes on…5 good hiphop songs and 4 bad hiphop songs later I was ready to bounce…not a bad overall expeiience..I vaguely remember the Blu Cantrell perfomance since the psychologist was spinning her tale of love redemtion and crazy men in the record industry…
Just weird looking back at the contrast from this tuesday to last tuesday..

Odds and Evens????
So I was thinking about relationships and I have observed that terms of endearment or emotion that are have an even number of letters tend to be easier to express..
..for example…Like, Love, Lust…4 letters, easily or readily to express. Respect…7 letters, Aretha had to sing about it..nuff said. Trust..5 letters another odd number…Who do you trust?? Happiness, 9 letters, comes and goes..an elusive commodity,, just like Fun, 3 letters, doesnt always last….perhaps in a complex world, the power of the words in some twisted mathematic equation, its the reason why things just dont add up in our society. Or maybe its late, I havent slept in a while….hmmm….Sleep..5 letters..and we can never get enough of it…just like….
…Peace..

This is crazy…
Just two years ago, the majority of Internet users were frequenting about 110 different sites. Now, a new study has shown that 60 percent of all users visit only 14 major Internet sites.
50% of all business goes to only four sites on the Internet: AOL Time Warner, Microsoft, Yahoo and Napster. The consolidation was caused by a combination of buyouts, mergers, and sites going out of business.
“We all know companies have gone out of business, and… there’s been an incredible amount of acquisitions that have gone down,” said a Jupiter analyst. “What was surprising is just how striking the difference was in such a short period of time.”
next year…content will be king. I just want a crown, and perhaps a little town called “Otisburg”
(sorry mr. Luthor)

What is Syntax Era? The times we are living in. Some examples” The dot com fallout” High gas prices, you get what I’m saying?
I encounter all kinds of stuff on a regular basis, my career path (more on that later) seems to amplify it more.

Today before noon today I learned:
15 seconds of an open flame will kill the AIDS virus.
It cost $40,000 to lock someone up for drug use.
It cost only $3,000 for drug treatment.
I used to hate Mondays at work and now I like them. (at least today)
More later…

Good Times-”Ain’t we lucky we got ‘em”

Posted on 23 July 2005 by Jonn Nubian

Woke up this morning and remembered that TV LAND was showing a “GOOD TIMES” marathon ALL weekend.

It will then become part of the regular schedule EVERY night @ 10pm :D

This is one my FAVORITE TV shows of all time and I’m glad it’s back on the air.
A little “GOOD TIMES” history for those that don’t know:

Good Times aired on CBS from February 1974 through August 1979.

Good Times follows the challenges and joys of the close-knit Evans family–patriarch James, mother Florida, eldest son and accomplished amateur painter J.J. (James Evans, Jr.), brainy and beautiful daughter Thelma, and youngest son Michael, a political and social activist–who live together in a high-rise housing project on the South Side of Chicago.

Audiences first met Florida as the no-nonsense MAID (housekeeper) on the series MAUDE
(starring Golden Girl Bea Arthur), which was produced by Bud Yorkin and Norman Lear.

Good Times was the FIRST prime-time series that featured a strong black man at the head of a close-knit lower-middle-class black family.

The show took an honest look at the reality of life in the urban Projects, and tackled social and political issues around race, poverty, unemployment, inflation, crime and addiction–hot button issues that cut across 1970s America.

Art aficionados may recognize J.J.’s paintings as the work of artist Ernie Barnes.
Credited as the founder of the Neo-Mannerism movement by art critic Frank Getlein, Barnes is widely regarded as one of the foremost American figurative painters and the leading African-American artist living today.

The show’s producer Norman Lear subsequently commissioned Barnes to paint a series of original pieces for Good Times, and what would become Barnes’ most famous work, Sugar Shack, was featured in the show’s opening credits for four years. For more information about Ernie Barnes and his work, you can visit Barnes’ website at www.erniebarnes.com

Next update: The Good Times theme song lyrics (thanks to Dave Chapelle)

The Non-Plus Ultra

Posted on 16 July 2005 by Jonn Nubian

So I was gifted some Cohiba cigars awhile ago.
:D
Smoked on on the patio @ APT the other night and this guy asked me:
What’s the big deal with Cohiba’s?
First is the taste and the fact that the domestic joints are $21 each the special edition are $54 EACH.
Probably cheaper if you go to to Cuba directy but:

The US trade embargo against Cuba is still in effect.

The Cohibas outstanding quality is based on three special features. First, only the best leaves are selected for its manufacture. Before every harvesting, when Avelino Lara makes his selection, the Cohiba takes precedence over all other cigars. Mr. Lara has at his disposal the produce of ten plantations, yet he only chooses the plants growing on five of these vegas. Second, the leaves are fermented three times instead of only two, in contrast to most of the Havanas. The third fermentation takes place in the factory and prolongs the whole process – beginning with the leaf and ending as a finished cigar?by 18 months. And last, but not least, Laguitos cigar makers, the torcedores, are the best in Cuba.

The Cohibas history
The Cohiba (its name originates from the Cuban Taino Indians word for cigar) is the epitome of a Havana cigar. Its spiritual author is the revolutionary Che Guevara who initiated the Cuban cigar industry to its manufacturing.
His objective was to create a post-revolutionary cigar that should be superior to anything formerly manufactured.
The Cohiba should become the non-plus ultra.

Most Cohiba cigars are manufactured in a factory called El Laguito, which is situated in one of Havana’s suburbs and formerly was the seat of the Marquez de Pinar del Rio. Only parts of the Robusto and Splendido formats are produced in the two factories Partagas and H.Upmann, which can be found in Old Havana. Initially, the Cohiba was meant for foreign dignitaries and diplomats. Since the soccer world championship took place in Spain in 1982, it has also been produced for the general export.

Went to a screening last night for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
It was wack.
I know it’s Tim Burton “re-imagining” but…

Who needs OOMPA LOOMPAS doing hiphop and heavy metal renditions?

Posted on 06 July 2005 by Jonn Nubian

kis?met Pronunciation Key (kzmt, -mt)

Fate; fortune.

Long story short around 1amish we are hanging in front of my building and a neighbor decides to go on a
White Castle run.
4 of us pile in his truck and what CD do you think is in his deck?
