MUNICH

Posted on 16 December 2005 by Jonn Nubian

I screened Steven Spielberg’s Munich , which recounts the dramatic story of the secret Israeli squad assigned to track down and assassinate 11 Palestinians believed to have planned the 1972 Munich massacre — and the personal toll this mission of revenge takes on the team and the man who led it.

All I can say is..whoa.
Usually with these advance screenings, people clap when the credits roll to applaud the film.

This time around…dead silence.

The final scene has a view of the New York skyline of 1973, with the World Trade Center in all it newly built glory from the shores of Brooklyn. Really made me think.

Spielberg does it again…
Good to see that I was able to take the train home (no MTA strike)

I been seeing so many people walking their dogs and wonder why they don’t have Pet ID Tags ???
I now know what a prempro lawsuit is.
And I definitely will be looking at investing in precious metals in 2006

Brrrrr

Posted on 08 December 2005 by Jonn Nubian

It’s 30 degrees out.
I don’t want to go out but I have to.
Good things are happening moreso all for NEXT year which is good.
Notice the neat new look of the MUSIC section on the site.

I added some new tracks so take a listen , let me know what you think and stay tuned in 2006

Besides that everything seems to have slowed down.
I thought about passing any extra time or a side hustle or maybe even a online education degree

BrokeBack Mountain

Posted on 07 December 2005 by Jonn Nubian

Screened “BrokeBack Mountain”, last night with a Q & A from
Heath Ledger, Ang Lee, etc.

So much hype on unhype about the “gay cowboy movie”
It’s long-winded and boring.(to me)

And I’m sorry but you can’t make a heartfelt- tearjerker- chik flick -love story with blantant homosexuality in the middle of it all no matter how wonderfully crafted the story.

Dreams Deferred

Posted on 29 November 2005 by Jonn Nubian

Not sure if it was overload of what was going on in the news or pre-thankgivings angst.
I hardly ever have dreams but last week had the weirdest dream.

Fade in:

I’m on my way to a meeting (somewhere) and walking down a long hallway.
I bump into Vice President Dick Cheney, who makes a comment about how good I smell.
(This summer I started using AXE body spray deodorant, comes in six fragrances)

, I usually wear Essence, which is described as:

“Essence brings out the sweet, polite, jewelry-buying, “aw, shucks” side of you that girls want. Along with the racy, adventurous, expert knot-tying, “saddle up” side that girls need. It’s good. It’s bad. It’s exactly what she’s looking for.”

So the VP is telling me how great I smell and he will give me a whole case of soda if I give him a whole case of my AXE deodorant.

He then produces a wooden crate case with plain bottles of soda with white labels which I notice has the coke-cola formula typed on it in small letters.

I then go into a room, where my a friend of mine is and a cousin who i havent seen since he went to MIT.
I ask them both if I should do the trade?

They say we have to go to a meeting and don’t have time.

We exit the room and Dick Cheney is still standing in the hall waiting with his case of sodas with a secret service guy we walk right pass them.

Fade out. Dream ends.

Anyone care to interpret this?

No Problema

Posted on 28 November 2005 by Jonn Nubian

Back to the grind, I didn’t sync my Treo before headed to the 3 inches of snow that fell on Massachusetts on Thursday.
I thought tonight was the WORLD premiere of my man
Rich Williams’ film, “No Problema” @ the African Diaspora Film Festival but its TOMORROW.

I’ll definitely be in the house for the support, plus the film features music by yours truly under my Vice.Lounge moniker. ;)

Syriana/Narnia

Posted on 21 November 2005 by Jonn Nubian

Went to a 2 screenings yesterday.
The first was “Syriana”,

It stars George Clooney and Jefferey Wright and is THE best political thriller of OUR time, since the subject matter involves EVERYTHING thats in the news RIGHT now.

Stephen Gaghan was there for a Q & A and waxed poetic about the process of making the movie, made me reconsider Leo Tolstoy.

Good thing there is a searchable online index of “War and Peace”

Later on was “The Chronicles of Narnia:”
“The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobee” by C.S. Lewis.

I have to admit I was a bit hesitant since I loved the books when I was a kid.
It turnedout to be one of the best childrens movies in a long time and definitely on par with the “Harry Potter” series.

I stuck around for the Q & A to find out the director was the same guy behind the SHREK films.
No wonder it was good….lol

Johnny Cash/Walk the Line

Posted on 17 November 2005 by jnu

Johnny Cash
This Ad was placed in Billboard in 1998 by Producer Rick Rubin with the caption:
“American Recordings and Johnny Cash would like to acknowledge the Nashville music establishment and country radio for your support.”
I attended the screening of “Walk the Line” tonight.
I wanted to like it MORE, but that still fram at the end gave me that “after-school special” feeling. Good performances though.

How fitting, I was playing “American IV: The Man Comes Around”
last week, my brother called asked what I was listening to and made a comment that it seemed we skipped out on a lot of the “real” stuff when we were YOUNGER and understand and appreciate it more the OLDER we get.

On this album Johnny Cash does cover songs of , Depeche Mode, the Beatles and the Nine Inch Nails tune “Hurt” which has been in rortation on my mp3 player and is also featured in the next season promos for “The Shield”.

Wait until you hear Mr. Cash sing Roberta Flack’s
“First Time Ever I Saw your Face”

everything is relative

Posted on 12 November 2005 by Jonn Nubian

“There is nothing either fundamentally good, nor anything fundamentally evil; everything is relative, relative to our point of view. This point once established, it is extremely possible that something, perfectly indifferent in itself, may be indeed distasteful in your eyes, but may be most delicious in mine; and immediately I find it pleasing, immediately I find it amusing, regardless of our inability to agree in assigning a character to it, should I not be a fool to deprive myself of it merely because you condemn it?”

Paris is Burning

Posted on 10 November 2005 by Jonn Nubian

Paris is BURNING..literally!

and I’m not talking about the 1990 documentary about ‘drag nights’ among New York’s underclass

Over 900 cars have been set on fire: an average of 80 cars a night!
They even arrested 2 bloggers for suspicion of encouraging people to take part in the Paris riots.
Who would of thought…in ole gay Parrie
Mike Bloomberg won the election and is still the Mayor of NYC.
Senator John Corzine (KOHR’-zyn) is the new Governer of New Jersey.
He is replacing Governer McGreevey who resigned for coming out the closet.

The New York Knicks haven’t won ONE game since the season started.

See how everything in the blog is kinda related?
