I was in NYC yesterday for a meeting right before the Largest Blackout in U.S. History.
We were in Starbucks (for the ambience and high speed wifi connection, not the expensive ass coffee)
All the power ceased and a crazy alarm sound kept going off.
I was waiting for someone making a latte to make some sort of announcment.
I guess the don’t cover that in the training process.
It figures since the smallest drink you can get there is named “Tall”
So our meeting wraps and I see this scene of people getting helped out of the ground.

Turns out that the subway lost power and the people had to be helped out.
I’m thinking it localized and make my way west to 6th ave.
I walk down to the subway and its pitch black. (scary)
I then ask around and ask a dude with dreadlocks with a bright yellow cellphone/walkie talkie unit, he is talking on it while my cell isnt getting a signal at all.
He said it was Nextel and worked for him during 9/11 so he had the scoop.
THE WHOLE EASTERN SEABOARD WAS WITHOUT POWER.
I’m thinking terrosist attack. Something a super-villan would do.
Please comment if you think the same.
I then see the craziness with NO traffic lights. No phone service.
I go and look for a radio so I can be informed and find a store selling flashlights on the street
I ended up getting this for $5:

works on triple aaa batteries and has stereo headphones.
A woman was going to buy one, but looked disappointed since it was only FM.
What did she think that FM radio is only for music???
I told her WYNC is all news and is on the AM and FM band.
I was suprised by the functionality…its sounds good and only has a on/off/volume and scan button where it tunes to the station.
Thumbs down on the dude charging me $2 for the batteries though when he know I can get them anywhere else for $1.
When I first turned it on, HOT 97 (WQHT)was bumping 50 Cent. and some dude called in thanking God he had just sat in the barbers chair to get a haircut when the power went out.
That would suck it he was in the middle of a cut. Lol
So I decide to make my back to New Jerusalem (NJ)
It turns out some parts of Jersey City where the lab is had power.
I was able to stand in the middle of 42nd/8th ave with no traffic.

I decided I needed something to drink and I got into a store where they were out of water but the guy let me in the back by candlelight and helped me find a Strawberry/Kiwi Snapple.
Like Ghostface Killah said:
“Aiyyo, this rappin’s like Ziti, facin me real TV
Crash at high-speeds, strawberry, kiwi”
Anywho…
Since the tunnels/suways were shut down I decide the ferry is the best route.
200,000 other people thought the same thing.

On top of the crowd and heat people were passing out all over.
A woman passed out right in front of me during the almost 4 hours it took to get on the boat.
Since the woman was close I was able to catch her before the hit the pavement.
About 30 minutes later a very irritiaing guy passed out too…I was trying to get through on my cell to catch him though. lol
He didnt let anyone help him up though…guess he didn’t want to be a punk.
The Statue of Liberty was still lit during the wait. (a good sign)
FYI, contrary to popular belief Lady Liberty is in New Jersey NOT New York
