The Hot Newness

Posted on 12 November 2003 by Jonn Nubian

Yep. I finally did it.
A whole new website design.
New Look. Same Original Flavor!!!

The feeling is more like buying a new suit, or a new pair of shoes.

It gives you a new sense of purpose (online wise)
I suppose I was waiting for the technology to catch up with me.
There was su much I wanted to implement but couldnt find the time…or the TIME to do it all.

Most people don’t realize that its hard work doing all the graphics and code.
Thing is I’m not a graphic designer or coder.

Like the Beatles said: “I get with a little help with my friends.”

On my journey I’m always learning..so through this all I versed a little more in PHP.

What’s PHP?

Playa Hater Protocol) LOl

Nah…It really is:

PHP (recursive acronym for “PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor”) is a widely-used Open Source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML.

Here is an example:

Example 1-1. An introductory example

<html> <head> <title>Example</title> </head> <body> <?php echo “Hi, I’m a PHP script!”; ?> </body> </html>

Much more extensive than HTML...recently I was using HTML editors like Hotdog Pro and Dreamweaver.

But, I been in this game since Duran Duran...I'm oldschool.

So I actually went back to using plain old Notepad to code.

Been a minute

Posted on 16 October 2003 by Jonn Nubian

It’s been a little over a month since my last post…Hope you like the Erykah Badu Album.
I got so much more NEW music,I havent had time to check it all out.
Thye will be coming to the new site when it launches.

Long story short…been working on First Generation Urban as well as some other projects.

Thanx to my cool design homegirl GiGi for the splash graphic I got there.
She also did the new Kelis’ site.
Check it out:Ultimate Kelis

Read back in the archives from last year about my Kelis encounter…lol

If I told you I saw an old black guy selling watches for $5 in a Superman costume with a cowboy hat and snake skin boots in, you probably wouldnt believe me.

So…here is the proof:

superguy2 (29k image)

I havent watched TV today, but today marks the 9 year anniversay of the Million Man March.
I was there with my Father. Quite a life changing experience.
You could say the name change from my government name was a part of it.

I know some people that played themselves and didnt “Get on the Bus”.
It occured to me years later in listen Public Enemy/Fear of a Black Album/”Brothers Gonna Work it Out”
(Which was released in 1994)

Chuck D said:

In 1995, you’ll twist to this
As you raise your fist to the music
United we stand, yes divided we fall
Together we can stand tall
Brothers that try to work it out
They get mad, revolt, revise, realize
They’re super bad
Small chance a smart brother’s
Gonna be a victim of his own circumstance
Sabotaged, Shellshocked, rocked and ruled
Day in the life of a fool
Like I said before to live it low
Life take you time, time yo go slow
Look here, not a thing to fear
Brother to brother not another as sincere
Teach a man how to be father
To never tell a woman he can’t bother
You can’t say you don’t know
What I’m talkin’ ’bout
But one day … brothers gonna work it out

New Music

Posted on 22 August 2003 by Jonn Nubian

maryj (51k image)
MP3′s in heavy rotation this week.
The New Mary J. Blige album “Love and Life”
It’s hot, reminds me of her first joint “What’s the 411?
Even has the same intro..lol
Yeah, I know the poster says in stores August 26th..I’ve had it for the past 2 weeks.

I just realized I havent bought a new CD in 2 years.
With a total of 50GB of music why would I need to?
Now the RIAA is trying to sue? Come get me.

I got some new tracks sent to me from the upcoming OutKast double album
“Speakerboxx/The Love Below”

Its another classic, didnt think they could top Aquemini, but they did with Stankonia.
Andre 3000 does one disc and Big Boi does the other.
I guess thats better than going solo.

The New Cappadonna Album is hot too…more on that later, dude is homeless and driving Gypsy cabs so I dont knwo how he is coming out with an album, its actually good.
More on him later…

Blackout

Posted on 15 August 2003 by Jonn Nubian

I was in NYC yesterday for a meeting right before the Largest Blackout in U.S. History.

We were in Starbucks (for the ambience and high speed wifi connection, not the expensive ass coffee)
All the power ceased and a crazy alarm sound kept going off.
I was waiting for someone making a latte to make some sort of announcment.
I guess the don’t cover that in the training process.
It figures since the smallest drink you can get there is named “Tall”

So our meeting wraps and I see this scene of people getting helped out of the ground.
blackout4 (27k image)

Turns out that the subway lost power and the people had to be helped out.
I’m thinking it localized and make my way west to 6th ave.
I walk down to the subway and its pitch black. (scary)

I then ask around and ask a dude with dreadlocks with a bright yellow cellphone/walkie talkie unit, he is talking on it while my cell isnt getting a signal at all.
He said it was Nextel and worked for him during 9/11 so he had the scoop.
THE WHOLE EASTERN SEABOARD WAS WITHOUT POWER.
I’m thinking terrosist attack. Something a super-villan would do.
Please comment if you think the same.

I then see the craziness with NO traffic lights. No phone service.
I go and look for a radio so I can be informed and find a store selling flashlights on the street
I ended up getting this for $5:
eton (23k image)
works on triple aaa batteries and has stereo headphones.
A woman was going to buy one, but looked disappointed since it was only FM.
What did she think that FM radio is only for music???
I told her WYNC is all news and is on the AM and FM band.
I was suprised by the functionality…its sounds good and only has a on/off/volume and scan button where it tunes to the station.
Thumbs down on the dude charging me $2 for the batteries though when he know I can get them anywhere else for $1.

When I first turned it on, HOT 97 (WQHT)was bumping 50 Cent. and some dude called in thanking God he had just sat in the barbers chair to get a haircut when the power went out.
That would suck it he was in the middle of a cut. Lol
So I decide to make my back to New Jerusalem (NJ)
It turns out some parts of Jersey City where the lab is had power.

I was able to stand in the middle of 42nd/8th ave with no traffic. :)
blackout4 (27k image)

I decided I needed something to drink and I got into a store where they were out of water but the guy let me in the back by candlelight and helped me find a Strawberry/Kiwi Snapple.
Like Ghostface Killah said:
“Aiyyo, this rappin’s like Ziti, facin me real TV
Crash at high-speeds, strawberry, kiwi”

Anywho…
Since the tunnels/suways were shut down I decide the ferry is the best route.
200,000 other people thought the same thing.
blackout4 (27k image)

On top of the crowd and heat people were passing out all over.
A woman passed out right in front of me during the almost 4 hours it took to get on the boat.
Since the woman was close I was able to catch her before the hit the pavement.
About 30 minutes later a very irritiaing guy passed out too…I was trying to get through on my cell to catch him though. lol
He didnt let anyone help him up though…guess he didn’t want to be a punk.

The Statue of Liberty was still lit during the wait. (a good sign)

FYI, contrary to popular belief Lady Liberty is in New Jersey NOT New York

Been Awhile

Posted on 06 August 2003 by Jonn Nubian

Its been a month since I last posted.

Besides summertime hecticness and being sick with a cold in the summer project deadlines,
turmoil in Liberia and the Kobe Bryant situation.

I’m back to let you know about a project I just completed for my homegirl Shantale.
She is writing, producing AND directing her first film titled “Interrupted Motion” which she is shooting in the NYC area.
She sent me the script a few months ago asked me to design the site.

Check it out and show her some love at:Interrupted Motion.com

I still got some goals for the sumertime like walking the Brooklyn Bridge and hittin Coney Island.
Stay tuned
