The people who are starting college this fall across
the nation were born in 1983. They are too young to
remember the space shuttle blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.

The CD was introduced the year they were born.

They have always had an answering machine.

They have always had cable.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

They can’t imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don’t know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: “Where’s the Beef?”, “I’d walk a
mile for a Camel,” or “de plane Boss, de plane.”

They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who
J. R. even is.

McDonald’s never came in Styrofoam containers.

They don’t have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Do you feel old yet?

Trent Lott Preview

Posted on 16 December 2002 by Jonn Nubian

Ok a little of the Trent Lott interiew which was TAPED earlier this afternoon.
It’s not live on BET. He voted AGAINST the Martin Luther King Holiday…
Yet he is going on a “cival rights” tour.
More than likely he WONT be ousted.
If he does, it wont matter that much.
Maybe his appearance is preview of “ComicView” instead?

Trent Lott

Posted on 11 December 2002 by Jonn Nubian

trent_lott (9k image)

Ok..So today my email box starts getting full from people about whether or not I will express my thoughts on it.

I’m peeping Fox News (We report you decide) while I’m listening to
Donald Byrd (Harlem River Drive)…
Trent Lott is on the phone talking to Sean Hannity, apologizing…again.

“…But obviously, I am sorry for my words, they were poorly chosen and insensitive
and I regret the way it has been interpreted,”

This is the statement for which Trent is catching heat:

“I want to say this about my state. When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him.
We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had
all these problems over all these years, either.”

(I call him Trent since we are so close) :)
Email him and say what’s up: senatorlott@lott.senate.gov
All aplogies aside, he said this to Strom Thurman. What’s the big deal?
thurmond_strom (20k image)

Thurmond ran as the Dixiecrat candidate for president in 1948 on a platform calling for the continuation of segregation in the South.
Thing that bothers me most is that Strom is 100 years old!
(Living off the Lifeforce of lost political souls no doubt)
He is still in the Senate. Still making policy.

The Congressional Black Caucus is all over this thing. But…

No one said ANYTHING about Bill Clinton praising his MENTOR this October.
James Fulbright, another dixiecrat who went on to argue against Brown/Education decision in ’54.
Bill even hooked this dude up with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Why?
At least Bill had sense make a comment that he “didnt always agree with him”
Because Toni Morrison called his “our first black president”.
Because he has an office on the 14th floor penthouse of 55 West 125th Street.
(Harlemworld)
Built in 1973, the high-rise sports a large FUBU mural on its side and is said to be the “largest office tower in the nation built and owned by blacks.”

SHAFT had his office in midtown and his apartment was in the village. (FYI)
shaftinafrica2 (8k image)
I screened “Shaft in Africa” this weekend. One of the BEST action films..ever!
Deeper than the other 2 in the series.
(this also gives me a chance to even out the color scheme
I got pics of 2 scary looking white dudes on here…segregationists on top of that )

LMAO

I file this whole matter next to the “BarberShop” nonsense when Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson wanted to picket the film studio.

They shootin’! — Aw made you look
You a slave to a page in my rhyme book-Nas

Eclipse

Posted on 09 December 2002 by Jonn Nubian

eclipse (7k image)

Tourists watch the sun being blocked by the moon during a solar eclipse in the Australian outback town of Lyndhurst, located around 700 kilometres (437 miles) north of Adelaide. The town is one of only four in Australia where the 26 second-long full eclipse of the sun could be seen.

Next one visible is November 13th, 2012…so mark your calendar.

Gold

Posted on 07 December 2002 by Jonn Nubian

“People around town talkin this and that
How we sound like the “R” and our music is wack
Dropped the album Strickly Business and you thought we would fold
30 days later the LP went gold
So whatch sayin?”
-EPMD

I launched this site almost a year ago. It avergaes about 40-60 thousand “hits” or visits per
month. Now this month I’m happy to say my site has gone “gold”.
Meaning over 500,000 unique visits! (If I had a $1 for every visit)
Not bad I guess since I dont update or promote as much
as I should.

My man Micheal Moore’s site was averaging
about 70,000 per month until he dropped the film “Bowling for Columbine”.
Now he is up to 17 million. Whoah!

We will see how much when I some of the projects I’m working on.
1. The movie project (s)
2. The music projects(s)
3. Lifestyle Magazine/Website: d.VICE=device://digital VICE (get it?)
4. The Clothing line…someone actual purchased the JNU thongs…
…Hmmm…thanx for the support.

Ok…saw some post on the guestbook about my “goverment” name.
El Keter zadik..I know yours so dont even trip. :)
Tyren GRFX…I know your full name..including middle name….

Yes yes Y’all…Jonn Nubian is my REAL name.
I will be using a new moniker though.
Hans Blix…like the UN weapons inspector.
His name is so hardcore. It will be my underground MC name.
“Hans Blix, up in the mix
uncovering your ass like that sliiy rabbit from TRIX
Tell Bush he is insane
Messing with Saddam Husien
I know who is harboring the Real weapons of Mass Destruction..
Its Jonn Nubian and his Brown Eyed Intelligence production”

I’m buggin…but you heard it here first.

Peace

Weekly Recap

Posted on 25 November 2002 by jnu

Pretty hectic week (last week)
So I figured I would do a weekly “recap” of what went on.
On wednesday I got one of those phone calls…
“Hey you want to check out event??”
Vague details, but I figured what they hey.
Turns out a friend of mine had 4 tickets to:
“Songwriters in the Round: Generation Volume 1″ an evening to
benefit VH1 Save the Music Foundation. click here for more info.
He had some issues picking them up at the MTV office.
Seemed like it might be ho hum but the price of the tickets was $750!
We just had to see what kind of people would paying $750 for an event at the
Bottom Line

Free drinks was a given. sushi at the table cool.
Wack gift bags though. It was filled with a bunch of expensive skin-care products.

A while after sitting down we noticed Jimmy Jam
(from FlyteTime, Janet Jackson, Alexander O’ Neal)
chillin at the bar. Pharell and Chad of the Neptunes walked in.
Kelis then sat down at a table.
This whole thing was a benefit show (thus the $750 ticket price)
Lots of stuffy corny people pay $750 for tickets. Now I know.
The stage was an intimate semi-acoustic stripped down performance featuring:
The Neptunes, Jimmy Jam, Jewel, Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 and was moderated by
Bernie Taupin (Elton John’s co-writer, “Hold me tight now Tiny Dancer…”)
It focused on the craft of songwriting.

The Neptunes starting by a rendition of Nelly “Its gettirng Hot in Here”, with just the piano and a broken drum machine. Pretty Cool. Jimmy Jam did “Tender Love” (Force MD’s) I didnt know that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis wrote and produced that joint. Jewel gets much more props on her voice.
I never really checked out Matchbox 20, but dude is good. I will have to get there stuff.
I found a new quote online the other day.
“novice’s go to hmv and genius’ download” LOL. I guess I’m a genius. :)

Afterwards we went to Panna II. check it here
It offers the BEST Indian food I have had. The ambiance is cool.
The motto is : “Where Chili Pepper Lights Meets Christmas-tree Lights”
The whole place is decorated with red christmas tree lights.
The menu price so cheap too. Best deal in town next to Gray’s Papaya.
Above all, the service is REALLY good. Those guys are cool.
Later on we ended up at Remote Lounge
Remote is one of favorite spots. The only technology based lounge equipped with
“telepresence”.
At Remote, all of the cameras within the lounge are controllable by the bar patrons themselves, who can view the output of the different cameras at custom-designed Cocktail Consoles?.
frontbooth2remote (10k image)

The Cocktail Consoles? also allow customers to then remotely pan and tilt any camera they are viewing using a joystick.
You can even hit a button of the consoles and it will snap a pic and post it on their website.
barbararemote (7k image)meatremote2 (8k image)tamikaremote (8k image)
Click here for other the other crazy pics ppl snapped that night.

Cool Place, it was bound to be even cooler since Tony Touch was having his release party for his new album “Last of the Pro-Ricans.”

200211210029151007 (22k image)

Hip-Hop, high tech…what more can you ask for.
I could have done without MOST of the dudes sporting the “Throw Back” Jerseys.
Come on, you’re not professional athletes. Give it a rest already!
I really stood out since i wore a suit. Oh w.ell….

Overall…a good night.

More later…

Knicks Game

Posted on 13 November 2002 by Jonn Nubian

knicks1 (4k image)
Last night chilled…I hate going out in Gotham in the rain.
But my man Sammy called me last minute and was in possesion of NY Knicks tickets at
Madison Square Garden. I dont really follow sports that much but:

One thing someone told me before, “it’s NYC, something good comes up…go for it.”
This was a time 2 years ago when I was coming from a meeting and saw David Bowie on the corner hailing a cab.
Said “What’s up” and he was off.
Later that day I ran into someone who knew someone else who worked for his newly launched webcast company and later that night I was at the Bowie concert…FREE.
Did you know David Bowie has his own Bank?
bowiecard (39k image)

Anywho, I was in the middle of something and met Sammy at the Garden…kinda late.
A lot people were coming out, so we thought the game was over.
Turns out we just caught the beginnning of the 3rd quarter.
People were leaving because the Knicks were down by 30 points getting spanked by the Utah Jazz.
Knicks ended up losing 87 to 108.
Like I said before…no focus.
Sprewell wasnt the only Knick I saw at Suede that night…Partying (See earlier post)

Like Lauryn Hill said :
“See the serpent played tricks run game like the Knicks
Build you up just to lose the championship.”

I think the Knicks are just a team people LOVE to root for. Winning is a whole nother story.

Rock the vote!

Posted on 12 November 2002 by Jonn Nubian

New update. The elections have come and gone.
On election day I got this email that said:

There is no excuse for people not to exercise their right to vote-especially blacks. For blacks not to vote, it is a slap in the face to Martin Luther King. It is spitting on the graves of those four little girls who lost their lives in that church bombing in Alabama. It undermines even the principles behind why Nelson Mandela spent twenty-seven years in jail in South Africa.

Yeah ok. I didnt vote (gasp). Why? Well I did some research and the Voting Rights Act passed in 1965
was just that an “act” and was never passed in law.
This started the online rumor/hoax that Black people will lose their right to vote in 2007.
In the immortal words of my friend Harry Allen:

“Don’ t Believe the Hype!”

Technically blacks have had the right to vote since the 19th amendment was ratified in 1920.
Southern voter registration boards used poll taxes, literacy tests, and other bureaucratic impediments to deny African Americans (Blacks)their legal rights.

But Peep it:

Ronald Reagan amended the Voting Rights Act for another 25 years…until 2007. At that time, congress will revisit the whole issue and in addition to congressional approval, there needs to be the approval of 38 states for the law to be extended.

1. According to the United States Department of Justice, Both the 15th amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 guarantee that no person can be prohibited from voting because of race or color. That guarantee is without expiration. The Voting Rights Act does not expire. Lawmakers did add some provisions to the law, however, that are up for review in 2007. Those include things like a ban on poll taxes, allowing the government to register voters if local registrars of voters refuse to do it, and monitoring of elections where there may be concern over everybody getting a chance to vote.
2. Both acts and laws are actions of congress and are the law. There is no distinction in terms of how long they exist. It depends on how they’re written.
3. These special provisions of the Voting Rights Act were to originally expire in 1970, but congress voted to extend them. They were extended again in 1970, 1975, and 1982. The chances are good that congress will extend them again.
4. An extension does not any approval by the states. Somebody’s gotten that mixed up with an amendment to the Constitution, which does require the approval of at least 38 U.S. states

Why is this STILL in effect? Why do they need to keep extending this Act?

154 million Americans DIDNT vote for George Bush. Do the math. Should he be in office?
10 of the 15 members of his cabinet are millionaires.
Condoleezza Rice has an 130,000 ton oil tanker named after her.

When its not this wack. I will vote.

“Got the right to vote and will elect.
other rappers can’t stand us but give us respect.”

We’re not talking ground, we’re not talking sky
We’re not talking low, we’re not talking high
We’re not talking big, we’re not talking small
We want all of the people on off the wall
We’re not talking night, we’re not talking day
But we’re talking bout Jam Master Jay
